UN urges Israel to end harassment, intimidation, detention of civilians in Syria

Middle East MonitorAdded 7 hours ago

The UN human rights office has called on Israel to stop its harassment and intimidation of civilians in southern Syria. This includes military raids, movement restrictions, and detentions, which have reportedly increased significantly in recent months. In September alone, there were around 280 recorded incidents of armed incursions, marking a concerning trend for the civilian population.

The report highlights that 49 Syrians are currently detained by Israeli authorities, with allegations of torture and ill-treatment surfacing from released detainees. These claims include severe physical abuse and psychological threats directed at detainees and their families. The UN's call for action emphasizes the need for Israel to respect human rights and cease its aggressive tactics against civilians.

This situation is particularly alarming given the ongoing conflict in Syria and the vulnerability of its civilian population. The international community is urged to pay attention to these human rights violations and advocate for the protection of civilians in conflict zones.
