A recent report from UN Women highlights the devastating impact of ongoing violence in Gaza, revealing that nearly 50,000 women and girls have been killed or severely injured since October 2023. This alarming statistic translates to one in every 21 women and girls in the region suffering from the consequences of conflict. The report underscores the persistent violence despite a ceasefire agreement that was supposed to bring relief.

Sofia Calltorp, UN Women’s chief of humanitarian action, emphasized that more than 38,000 women have lost their lives, while 11,700 others are now living with severe disabilities due to their injuries. The humanitarian crisis has forced nearly one million women and girls from their homes, with many currently displaced and living in precarious conditions.

The situation remains dire as the violence continues to affect the most vulnerable populations. The report calls for urgent international attention and action to address the human rights violations and provide necessary support to those impacted by the ongoing conflict.
